Many years ago, a client invited me to hear Carlo Ponti Jr.’s orchestral debut at U.C.L.A.’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles. I was determined to meet his mother, Sophia Loren, whom I had worshiped since childhood, only because she was worshiped by my mother.
I grabbed a 1963 picture of me standing before my sister’s door, covered with large photos of the Kennedy family, Sophia Loren, Bridget Bardot, and Johnny Halliday, and wrote a brief dedication on the back.
After the concert, I used a smile to slip past the corded off area, into the after affair. I had prepared a brief speech in Italian, something to the effect “This is a photograph of me in 1963 in front of my sister’s door. I would like you to have it, from someone who admires you”.
She was elegant, as usual, wearing a black cocktail dress.
Now I find the fine actress with whom I co-starred in Richard Kelly’s Visceral Matter, Sasha Alexander, has married her son, and is now her daughter-in-law. Interesting how the world works.
I will add more specific details to this post when it becomes important to me.
One life.
One God.
Mine.
Whole.
Perfect.
Complete. I accept.
I give thanks.
And so it is.
Amen.
