2018, Mirror Image Edutainment, Alan John Mayer
I am not even going to try to get this right. It’s the thought that counts.
Years ago, I took up correspondence with some men in jail. Several sent me creative works of art, and poetry ranging from the ancient Greeks to Voltaire, to Goethe, to this poem. These men, in jail for offenses from possession and dealing of marijuana to check fraud, surprised, and touched me. This is one of the poems I received, accompanied by a beautiful drawing. If you were raised Catholic, you may have had it hanging over your crib.
My
Guardian Dear
to whom
God’s love
commits me here,
Ever this day
be at my side
to light
and guard
to rule
and guide.
~ Amen
