In May of 1966, I came to live in this country. While my mother returned to the Old World that September, my sister and I convinced our father buying a television set would help us to assimilate into American culture. My older sister, ever the manipulator, talked him into taking us for a visit to the electronics department at J.C. Pennys, and an hour later, we came home with a brand new 17″ inch black and white television set, which put my father back sixty-nine dollars.
It was not long before Sis and I were fighting over whether to watch

Mission Impossible,
I Love Lucy,
or I Spy.
