Last year, a friend of mine had a traumatic experience on horseback when she got tangled up in the stirrups and was thrown to the ground just as the horse approached a jump. It wasn’t even that high. Although she sustained only minor injuries, she knew that the only way to get over the trauma was to get back on a horse. One day that following spring in the country, an opportunity arose for her to do just that. After taking a moment to get to know the horse, she carefully mounted the mare. They took off in a gentle trot and all was going well until suddenly, the horse sensed her fear and began to gallop. Bouncing up and down, she held onto the reins for dear life. I could see the terror in her eyes as I stood there watching, unable to help.
