Today I called my friend Barbara, late, to wish her happy Valentine’s Day.
“I grew up learning to associate Valentine’s Day with a lover, and I don’t think of myself as romantically involved with you,” I said. “This afternoon, a friend made the comment how, as a Catholic, he was raised to celebrate all saints, and I thought of you. I could not let the day go by without and letting you know you are loved by so many,
of which I am just one”.
We laughed, and I thought of his mother. I give thanks for the mind stretch, prompting me to include both, all three, in my celebration of love.
In absence of any news from Mother of Denver, I include her in my prayers. All in all, it was the best Valentine’s Day I have had in years; a box of chocolate, one card, a photo of an angel, two e-mail, and an empty mailbox.
It’s been another perfect day. Thank you God.
One life.
God.
Perfect, whole, complete.
All in and around me.
I accept.
I give thanks.
I let it go.
And so it is.
Amen.
